The Border Guards Bangladesh on Tuesday began talks with their Indian counterparts and representatives of the Union ministries of home and external affairs on a host of issues related to crime and illegal movement along the frontier.
Top commanders of the border guarding forces of India and Bangladesh will meet later this week to thrash out a number of issues including illegal crossing over and migration to Indian side, and smuggling of narcotics along the eastern frontier.
A total of 820 ex-paramilitary soldiers and 26 civilians were put on trial and Dhaka metropolitan sessions court judge Md Akhtaruzzaman gave life imprisonment to 158 rebel soldiers and jail terms of three to 10 years to 251 others, while 271 were acquitted.
India shares a 4,096-km border with Bangladesh.
